WANTS TIME

Comical Not Ready For Trip

, It takes time to make a 'steeplechaser; that they cannot be made m. a couple of weeks is very obvious. WHICH brings up the case of Comical, which bolted home m the last Grand National Hurdles. In private he had always been a good jumper over country. So this winter it was decided to convert him into a 'chaser, and with his credentials as a hurdler he came into the boom. . , He.had his first outing at Wanganui and fell over. Then came Auckland and m three efforts he did not complete the course. ' , During this time changes of riders were being* made and when .he started at Trentham on Tuesday Harry McSweeney had the mount. As per his wont, Comical jumped out and went to the lead, but bad jumping was costing him ground all the time and with tho end of two rounds he had had enough and did not finish the course. Comical may make a steeplechaser, but it is going to take, time — and more time . than the : average. Just whether it is more schooling needed or that it is just cussedness on the part of the chestnut is hard to say. One day he will school well— the next he could not jump his shadow. He is the same m his races. He jumps one fence m his stride — then the next he goes right up to it, says goodday, and then pig- jumps it. Also, when he stops he stops quickly. He goes from the lead to last m a hundred yards. „■ ■ c ALL being well Piuthair and Clarinda will get away for Sydney at the end of the month.
