FOR WINTER
Popular Fashions Peace reigns m the kingdom of fashion at. the moment, and will continue to do. so until the spring "openings," as they are called, take place. CPRING, of course, seems a long way ' J ; off, but it is a pleasant anticipation. It conjures up visions of bright warm days, budding: trees and. so on, and' to the average woman it also conjures up visions ■ of a new dress. In the :meantime, however,- the great thing is to keep" warm, and.it is only natural that attehtion at the moment should be focused on top-coats, and knitted woollens. "•■•..■ Fifteen to twenty years ago women wr.apped themselves up m voluminous coats, and to put it plainly resembled nothing more or less than .walking mummies. To-day all this is changed and coats are far softer and lighter, and color schemes are exceptionally beautiful. There is nothing monotonous about them, and the influence of the dolman, as well as the Inverness, may be seen. The power of the latter, m fact, has become more pronounced as the season has advanced. , Dolman sleeves, bloused backs and floating panels are the most noticeable features. All fullness is eliminated for although it is permissible to have a bloused back it must not do so at the sides. Floating panels are an evolution of the cape and while some terminate at the waist, others extend down to the hem.
