MAN OF SOME ACCOUNT
HARD work and very little cash was 1 the heritage which fell to Keith Ormiston Thomson ("Tommy," for short) when he left school. % He began, to look round for an excuse to take off his coat, and while thus' oft his toes he ran into an apprenticeship with the B. K. Morton Proprietary^ m Victoria. "Tommy" quickly sensed the advantage of combining brain and hand, and his spare time became pretty well filled m with study. When he was 22 he put out his.shingle as a public accountant, and attracted a remunerative clientele to his doors, including the firm he now represents m New Zealand. It appears -that the New Zealand branch manager for Morton's, Ltd., had resigned and "Tommy" was asked if he would come over here for, six months and see things through. After consideration he accepted, leaving his practice m the, hands of a locum. During the first four months m this country this youthful manager made the Avheels of industry hum, and it is not surprising that he was offered a seat on the directorate if he would accept the managership as a permanency. Nevertheless, after a good deal of cogitation, he threw m his lot with New Zealand, and the branch on Lambton Quay, Wellington, is soundly progressing. Success has not spoiled this very •young Australian. In face of unusual accomplishments he still remains a cordial, quietly spoken, convincing sort of chap who, while being a red-hot wire, is not dependent on hot air to keep steam up. -
