A Warning
CREDERICK GEORGE ALLEN and Thomas Lionel Grlce were taxi-drivers—rivals presumably— and one fine day they had a difference concerning a fare. * Frederick said things to Thomas that the most polite taxi-drivers don't say to each other, and Thomas retaliated by taking the . law intp his own hands. Frederick subsequently appeared m the Magistrate's Court at Auckland with a chipped nose* and a cut lip, on a charge of obscene lan- -' guage, and Thomas stood beside ■him to answer one of assault: "Oh, this court'll • do," " said, Freddy obligingly, when asked to name his choice between being dealt with by the S.M. or a judge and jury. . . ;■ ! "I said.it softly so that no one could hear," he;asserted when the charge was read out. "It's evidently six of one arid half a dozen of the other," said Magistrate Hunt. "They will"be fined 40/- each and 10/- each for witnesses' expenses. "If they have another conviction of this sort, we'll cancel their licenses," he concluded warningly. -,-.
