Last Saturday there was one of . the most exciting finishes to" a senior cricket match that have been witnessed m Christchurch for years. It was m the game bfctween West Christchurch and Ricearton, the latter team getting a lead of one run oh the first innings and so scoring a two-point win. Oh the first day West had made 267 and Ricearton had lost one for 34. Thanks to some very fine batting on the part of C6x (72) and Evans (63), Ricearton Were placed within striking distance bf their opponents' total, and When Rix and Fuller became ass Or' ciated for the . ninth ! wicket 27 runs were required. They got 26 of them, and then Rix was thrown out m attempting a short single. Gibbs, the last man, was obviously nervous when he went to the wickets, but he survived four , balls and then Fuller got a single ~ to leg. Linwood scored a two -point win overEast. Linwood were in' a strong position at the end of the first day's play, having scored 256 for six m .reply to 122 by their opponents. Linwood carried their score to 300. There was some fast scoring when East went to the wickets for the second • time. Gregory scored 125 before he was caught behind the wickets. It was a' capital knock, and he hit one six and 20 fours. \ Tlie game between Old Boys and Sydenham was very even at the end of the first day, -when Sydenham had made 172 and Old Boys had lost six wickets for 118. '■ Solid batting by Jacobs, Merritt and Carletan saw Sydenham's total passed, and Old Boys wound up with 230. Jacobs played a great knock for 93 not out, and would have reached the cenutry if anyone could have stayed with him.
