Some women are able to impart such foresight and character to their work that it becomes immediately inspirational to other women. They are gifted with an innate sense Of leadership, and their modesty, combined with a rare degree of tact, and the ability to make instant decisions is the heritage .which commands reThere is a lady m this land who could, but does not, lay claim to the possession of these very desirable qualities, and m casting the mind back over the war years it will be agreed that Lady Luke achieved some prodigous tasks. "Action" is her watchword, but for all . this, she gains her ends by a nice regard for the capabilities and feelings of others who come -\vithin the spell of her attractive manner. Like her husband, Sir John Luke, she was quick to realise the needs of the community, and it was during the war, and at the time' of the tragic period of the epidemic, that she demonstrated her worth. "Keep the women busy and help them to forget" was the slogan she adopted, and whether it was m the organising of emergency ..hospitals or relief of plague-stricken families, she tackled it with the utmost energy and intelligence. ' Having raised a family and seen the world as well, this purposeful, cordial Lady of the Land has a wealth of personal anecdote from which to draw, and many Interesting things to recount m connection -with her very strenuous life. ■■-■"•'
