TROTTING EXPERT

BORN m Scotland, he arrived m New Zealand when but two years old. When he left school he thought he would like to work among the

"bawbees," so he entered the service of the Bank of New Zealand. At 23 this promising Christchurch boy, Andrew Innes Rattray, .was chief of the bills department and going strong. But the glamor of the directorate faded. A lover of horses from infancy, he

left the service and became secretary

of what is known to-day as the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club. That was m the good old days of 40 years ago -when trotting control was more or less "rafferty." Rattray changed all that and called the meeting that resulted m the formation of the New Zealand Trotting Association. From that time onward' the sport took on a new lease of life. He was also instrumental m calling the Trotting Conference together many years ago. Cheerful, philosophical arid a man who. speaks his mind and calls a spade a spade, Rattray has only one business and hobby— and that is furthering the best interests of the sport he loves so much.
