When Mclntosh Rushed For The Bar!

Cucksey, the licensee of • the .Prince Arthui' Hotel, about 2 a.m., -he- woke up very much with the impression that someone was., m the room, and he saw. a figure m the corner where he hangs his .clothes. ' ; ; "What do you want?" he in-' /quired, but there was no answer. Cucksey, being a man <of ' action, hopped out of bed arid went for? the! intruder, who quickly, made off." . ' Constable Smith was soon on the spot, and he searched the prisoner, Who turned out to be one Andrew Robert Mclntbsh. He gave his age as 24; he had recently. come up from Arapuni. " . - , A "Gin Crawl" . Taken to the police station, the accused made a statement which went to show ■-', that he 'had been on what is often known as a 1 "gin; crawl" around the town the previous day, and was out late that night looking for a man with whom he had been ' drinking earlier m the evening. . The landlord had made a mistake m grabbing him. It was a man who had run past him while he. was looking .foi\ his friend who was. the real offender, but he had been collared by mistake. ' Mclntosh was -brought before Magistrate Poynton 'at the > Auckland Magistrate's Court last week. . ' The two charges against him /were, that he was a rogue and a vagabond, being found on the premises of the Prince Arthur Hotel without lawful excuse, • and with stealing £ 3 15s *m cash, the property, of Cucksey. The Bench ;bestowed six months on Mclntosh on the first charge and three months on the other— to , be concur-cent-^and, the. man from Arapuni left :he box looking very dejected.
