What Dogs Know
(From "Truth's" Special Dunedin Rep.) Most nien have dogs and train them to obey and pick up a few trioks. But have they ever read a by-law or a summons to them? THIS phase of canine intelligence I; was exemplified at tb.is Dunedin Magistrate's Court, the other day when a man was. charged with allowing his dog to wander a,t large. Being unable to a.ttend the Court, he Wrote a letter explaining the dog's attitude to the. affair: 1 '.'Many efforts have been made to prevent this dog, whose habits are beyond reproach, leaving the house. "Years j?efore this by-law the dog had been accustomed to making a daily visit on his own to my rooms m the Octagon and returning at his meal hour with a singular punctuality that most wives would welcome m their husbands. "I have read the by - law to the dog, also the summons; and m spite of the ca,nine belonging to the most intelligent breed of dogs he does not seem to be duly 'sensed with the seriousness of breaking the by-law." No doubt he is more "seriously sensed" with the chewing of bones. TRENE ■ CASTLE, famous dancer, is *■ sorry, she introduced bobbed hair, because it's unsuitable for women with small heads; ' MosUfa'shions, of pourse, are introduced for women .with small bra,in,s; ■ ■ '
