There was a big exodus Wingatui last week, and the tracks were practically deserted. # * * Pink Note has been finishing on well m his recent races, and a bit of extra ground should not trouble him. He has built up into a real racehorse. •• ' ♦ The two-year-old Top Gear is a good one to follow from now on. He was one that required time. ; * * * ' Soltoe is raced over all distances and thrives on it. He is a bit small ever to be up to weight. * #■■»■■ Kipling will be m the argument m some of the bigger steeples ahead. He was never better than he is at present, and is galloping and jumping well. '.■■;• v •■:•■■. •'-• v #■■■#•■■•■ Buoyant is no champion, but is capable of cleaning up a race or two at minor meetings. He has been hitting out well for , Dave Wilson. ..« , • #■.-,■• The first time Scamp lines up fit and, well he will make the cross-country fields hurry. If ridden hard into his fences he flies them like a stag. ,** * . • It was bad luck for George Feilding to lose the services of Apple Dighton just befdre the Easter meetings. The Australian gelding was shaping well when; he went sore.. ' : ■ . #. ■: ... * •■;.- Heather Lad has thrived on his beach treatment, and the softening tracks should be to the Gay Lad gelding's liking' \ i ROYAL GAME ran a couple of good races at the Wairarapa meeting, and was unlucky not to get the decision on the 1 second day. He hopp£d out smartly both days, and it was only m the straight that he began- to tire. On the second day he was hording the better-conditioned Hynanna 20 yards from the post, and it looked as though he just got there. . The judge, however, gave it as a dead-heat, and hewas probably right i •■• . v . ■■ * " * •' : TSHE three top weights to score on the * first day of Tauherenikau all-won well. King Broney, Elthein and Indian Sage gave nothing else a chance m the straight, and never looked like being beaten. •. . . * *' . .• • IDANOE ran a good race until the * straight entrance on the first day at Tauherenikau. She was benefited by the race, however, and won fairly easily from Pantagruel on the second day.
Whitirangi's injured heel is mending well, and the ex-North Islandfer's spell will soon be over. He should be a. good proposition over the hurdles later on, and he hops over fences from one paddock to another as tliqugh he had been at it all his life. v * *■ '*.■■'- Windermere. has gone wrong and is out m the paddock. This is bad luck, as he looked like catching one o£ the shorter distance steeples. -. . • * . \ *■ ' * :' ■'. Monoxide has probably run her last race. She is to go to the matron's paddock. - . . . * * m ' Kapuna shows great promise as a hurdler, and a good heat over fences should not be beyond him. Tholomon has a race or two ahead of him, and has been working ' well enough to win m; his class. : • \ , * ■■ ' *: * . ; Next time High Gear is taken to the races he will take some heading off. Time has served him well. * :■ • • '. Kilbarry is on deck again, and has only to stand up to it to get some more money. It is m his favor that the sting is now out of the tracks. * * ■•#.■■ Queen Balboa is a handy sort to have m any stable. Bob McKay has had a good jog with her, and it wouldn't be a surprise if she trained on to win big heat. * * ' ■. » : Miss Wiqkie will be all the better for a race or two. She still has a multitude of supporters, who are confident of being more than evens before very long.
