Source of Revenue
'Bus competition has done a lot for the travelling citizens of Auckland. NOT many moony ago it was an infringement, of the by-laws to stand on the front or rear platforms of the trams. The evening meal could^ be as cold as a damsel m her evening frock.hugging the North Pole for all the councillors cared. All that has gone, and it is rarely that the chains are seen up nowadays. One thing the Council, has not yet done. Should anyone be unfortunate enough to forget their parcel o£ smoked fish or the chops for tea, an umbrella or any old thing, it cannot bii retrieved m the city. Oh, no!. Not at all!. The forgetful one must board the municipal tram, or some conveyancei and travel three sections to the tram barns at Epsom, where , the lost luggage office is located! Two reasons could be suggested for the continuance of such an obsolete scheme, and neither are beyond being put forward by those responsible. The' first is that m the course of! twelve months it is quite a decent' source ot: revenue to the municipal trams; the other that it may be the, Intention to compel the Auckland public to exer-. cise their memories to a greater extent. Still, a central left luggage office m conjunction with the trams would be a. valuable .and welcome asset, y. ■
