HELPED HIMSELF
(From "Truth's" Special Auckland Rep.) There was interesting variety •m the three charges preferred against Titus McKenna when he appeared before S.M. Hunt at Auckland the other day. Mrs. Tulip Penny told the Court that Titus was friendly with a la.dy who stayed m her house. One fine day Titus came to the 'place "under the, influence," and his lady friend cleared out. Titus entered the house, and, ■■. Mrs. Penny said, "helped himself to:, the lady's bed." The police '.came, and he was roused earlier than he had expected. - ;■/ When Titus was leaving the •house m- the company of the officer of the law, he -got hold of Mrs. Penny, by. the throat and threw her to the ground. : ■■ . ' . McKenna's excuse was that he had too much drink. That, however, did. not save, him 1 the painful ■ necessity of gathering up £4 if he wished to save himself a seven days' respite ;at Mt. Eden. :
