RICCARTON MINOR EVENTS
Great Autumn Handicap Trial
POOR HURDLES FIELP At time of writing the handicaps have just been issued for the minor events at the C.J.O. autumn meeting.
IN all events, with the exception of the Hurdles, there promise to be, nice handy fields,, both from a racing and betting point of view. With only eight handicapped m the hurdles everything points ■to a onedividend race. * Projector, m the absence of Many Colours, is going to be the hardest horse to beat. The Russley Plate will probably find the Riddiford bracket (Note and Spode) most m favoi-. Young Lochinvar won at Hororata on Saturday, and he is the one the Trentham pair will have to beat. There are a number of speedy hacks engaged m the Gimcrack Handicap. Victory Bond, Rosenor, His Majesty, Serotina, Minotus and Royal Dispatch are, to mention a few of those handicapped, horses which can scamper over the distance. Minotus has won on the course and if he is to show up m the Challenge Stakes on the following • day he can be looked to. Serotina is on her home track and she goes well. This pair may do best. The Sockburn Handicap is a dress
trial, for the Great Autumn Handicap, for. the winner, 'should he be engaged m the big event on: Tuesday, will not be re-handicapped. : The distance is two furlongs shorter than the reat Autumn, and this fact coupled with their ; big weights may be too much for the ' top weights. Mountain Lion is a horse which has been performing well of late and it points to him running a good race. . Tommy Dodd will find the distance to his liking, while Clandhu, if he runs honestly, will make them all go with 7.6. Following on his win m the Cup at Hororata, Corinthic will be a good fayorite for the Autumn Plate. The Hororata win was achieved m poor company, but the public will not think of this. The North Islander, Piuthair," is going to have a say m the finish, for she is a good mare, while Roman. Archer was a winner at Oamaru over a similar; distance. The Courtenay Welter is going to be hard to solve. Zaragoza will be m the boom. Los Ambus runs out a good mile, while Retrospect won on the course Jn Feb.T ruary. . .
