STANDARD EQUIPMENT

One Detail Still Missing "SECOND THOUGHT " FITTINGS

The modern car is very well equipped m most details, but one feature wh'ch most motorists find essential has not yet received that attention from the designers which it deserves. We refer to the adjustable side screens for the driver's windscreen.

Strangely enough, these pieces are almost invariably fitted to rear screens, but seldom to the front, so that they have to be added afterwards. This involves the use of ugly clips, which seldom fit the profile of the main screen frame, and have to be adapted to suit each individual car. If fitted by the manufacturers, they could be built m like any other accessory and a much more satisfactory job would result. They could also be made draughtproof where they hinge to the main frame, which can seldom be claimed for the "second thought" fittings which are usually seen nowadays. Another fitment which calls for attention is the cap for the radiator or J benzine tank.

Why will the manufacturer stick to the old-fashioned screw-on , type? . ' ■.■■•■.• ' There must be thousands of these caps lost every year because it is so easy to forget them after filling up. A neat hinged cap is just as easy to produce, cannot be forgotten, is much easier to open and close and is, m fact, m every way more efficient than the screw-on fitting.
