Belated Pensions

Once again the Pensions and Repatriation Department of Australia have shown their utter indifference to the needs of their pensioners. INVALID soldiers' pensions are pay- * able on demand at the New Zealand post offices on the second of each month. : The New - Zealand authorities, m view of the Christmas and New Year holidays, put forward the date of payment out of consideration for the possible needs of those entitled to them. • But not so the Australian officials. N ■ I . . ■ Rather they would appear to have put them back. War pensions, which were payable on the second of January, were! not available on that date, nor again on the fourth of this monthtwo days later. That there are many men to whom this monthly allowance means a great deal, and who may, m fact, be more or less dependent on it, is indisputr able*, and it is but one more .example 6" i the treatment meted out to ■ them when their services are no longer .essential to the Commonwealth.
