"For he had disappeared, leaving her to light out the battle alone. The fires of passion had died, leaving only the ashes of a cold disdain. ' . Face to face with the girl m the Christchurch Court, Alexander Blanche, a young seaman, of Island Bay, Wellington, did not dispute paternity of his illegitimate child. He agreed to pay £1 per week, but as he was stated to be a bird of passage, whose calling lured him away on the broad waters of the ocean, he was ordered to enter into a bond.
