"BE WISE IN TIME"
NO MORE OPEN EXHAUSTS Nuisance Should Be Avoided Grandmotherly legislation is one thing-, annoying the general public is another. If motorists wish to avoid the one they should . endeavor to steer clear of the other.
Noise caused by car's has not been the cause of much discussion m New Zealand, except m cases where the trouble was experienced m the vicinity of hospitals. But m other countries all sorts of laws have been made for dealing with this matter. We have recently heard several complaints about the poor silencing of certain engines, and motorcyclists appear to be the chief offenders m this respect. In the towns it will often be noticed that a certain class of motor-cyclist collects m small groups and hangs about with engines running and making a great deal of unnecessary nofse.
Sooner or- later this will lead to police action, and motorists will be subjected to a great deal of additional regulation to overcome this trouble. This is all very well, but every motorist knows that all these regulations give rise to a crop of technical offences which become a terror to the innocent as well as the guilty. Therefore let us be wise m time and avoid giving offence, so that there shall be no excuse for. any further additions to the present rules and regulations which we labor to obtain as much enjoyment as possible from our cars and cycles.
