BLACK LILA
Mare Makes Good AND PAYS BIG DIVVY (From "Truth's" Special Auckland , Rep.) . . The outside public at Alexandra Park on Saturday last evidently knew a great deal more about the ability of Black Lila, a former winner of a Sydney Thousand, than did the heads. When the figures were registered, Black Lila was returning considerably more on the main tote than she actually returned, which was quite large enough to satisfy those who gave the aged daughter of Childwood a winning chance. It was a handsome dividend which i George Phipps's mare returned when she captured the Massey Memorial Handicap, and no one begrudged him the win. There, is nothing very attractive about Blixk ' liila, but that she is speedy she proved b> going 3secs. better than her handicap for the ten furlongs. The favorite, Florrie Bingen, who ran second, also bettered her handicap by 2 4/ssecs., only to suffer defeat by a head. . Jack Garrett has only Tempean m work at present, but is expecting an addition to his team shortly. . :
