TAKAPUNA MEETING

Big Fields Will Face Starter ALISON CUP CANDIDATES (From "Truth's" Special Auckland Representative.) The Takapuna J.C. Spring Meeting will be held to-day and on Monday. Good fields have been entered and some good racing is promised.

This course is not -what could be termed a reliable punters' track, especially where big fields are concerned, but it is worth noting that no fewer than 145 names appeared m the list of eight events for the opening day after last week's payments — an average of 18 per race. The Takapuna Hack Plate still finds 33 engaged, Melrose Handicap 21, Borough and Cheltenham both 19, Alison Cup IG, Ponui Hurdles 15, Cambria 14/ and Tiri Hurdles S. The principal event is the Alison Cup, of lO'/2 furlongs, which may find the oft-retired Surveyor again making another bow to a race crowd. He is a marvel, but surely cannot take out yet awhile after his busy season at the stud. Musketoon is m a class of his own, but has 9st Sib, and if he goes to the post and silences the opposition with that impost, then the owners of the rest had better sell .out and realise that theirs are not handicap horses at all. P.olonett is fit, and will probably beat more than will beat him, even at Sst 91b, but it is possibly just about enough. He dead-heated for first last year, but only had 7st m the saddle to Illumination's Sst 41b. Star Ranger (Sst 21b), if he could repeat that run he made when Musketoon 9st 41b) and Te Monanui (Sst 131 b) only touched him off m the last bit of the ten furlongs at Ellerslie, would be hard, for he then had Sst 51b,- and now has 31b the best of Polonett. Ruapapa is given a distinct show at Bst 51b on the Takapuna track over 10/2 furlongs, and if he cannot take a hand m the settlement he belies his promise m the Mitchelson and Waikato Cups. "* Spoony and Desert Glow will have to be considered, and Royal Present :s m light enough if caught on his day.

Boomerday (winner of the rac. ....o years ago) may have a kick left, but the form of the other lightweights leaves them without any great folio wiiiiiiiiiiiii<iiiii<MiiiiiiiiiiitiiHiiiiiiiiiiiiiiMiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!iMiiiiiiiiniii iiiiiiiiiiiiimrannrammramt UMIIMIIIIIIII MMIIIIII Illlllllrillllll II" 11111111111111 l Illlllllllllllllliuillllllti

ing, with Tinopono and Mount Marta as the most likely. The following should run well: Ruapapa, Polonett, / Star Ranger.
