HER CHANCE

Large Allowances

WILL BALLYMOY 11.

SHOW UP WELL?

(From "Truth's" Special Auckland Rep.) When the Takapuna Jockey Club ■ decided .to place the Takapuna [■Plate oh .their .spring, programme it X.made a wise move, and there' is ; distinct evidence that the race is -'becoming popular. There has only been one contest ctfecidecl $o far, that being' when the English-bred Drawbridge won for Mr. N. G. Donald last spring and created something, of a mild surprise, for his previous form threw out Ijttle indication that he 'would be returned the winner. On that occasion, the English -bred Ballymoy 11. was really about two and a half years old, but racing as a three-year-old, played some part- m the early tunning. She faded out, the nature of the going not being tocher liking, at the close of the seven furlongs. In the meantime Ballymoy 11. has not won a single race, though .she acted as runner-up to Broadwood over six furlongs at EUerslie m the autumn. She has been taking on the open sprint class, and raced well enough to Finelli, King Merv and that class at EUerslie recently to make it clear she will start about favorite when 'she steps out m this year's Takapuna Plate. . , . Although she has undoubtedly the speed, Ballymoy 11. is not being proclaimed an absolute moral by the hardened followers of the game. "Truth" observed the chestnut daughter of Sonning— : Bally.kill show her best dash recently at EUerslie when she was going well within herself at the close of half a mile m 4Ssecs. If she disappoints her large army of followers ' to-day it may not be her speed but the distance, if anything, that would beat her. However, the Takapuna Plate conditions aro l framed to suit her if she can stay on, for she not only has a lOlbs maiden allowance but also an English-bred allowance of 31bs, bringing her poundage down from Sst 91b to 1 7st 101 b, or only 31bs above the actual minimum to be carried by competitors to-day.
