NOTHING TO SAY
YOUNG MAN'S LIST Found With Stolen Watch On Him (From "Truth's" South Auckland Rep.) For a young man of but 26 years of age, John Gibb Hastings has an unenviable criminal record. Already, before he faced the Hamilion Court last week, chai-ged with the theft of a watch, he had four or five convictions for theft, while charges of another nature had also been proved against him. A further two months were' added by the Hamilton Magistrate to his prison record. • Accused was a very calm and collectedVoung gentleman, and when he was approached by an officer of the law and asked if he had a watch belonging to somebody else, he calmly produced the time-piece and submitted quietly to arrest. His previous experience of the law and its course probably accounted for his philosophical acceptance of the awkward situation, and for his realisation of the futility of attempting a bluff with the evidence of guilt m his waistcoat pocket. He adopted the same casual attitude m Court when charged with the theft, making no denial and having nothing to say. After perusing accused's record, his Worship told him this was remarkably bad for a, young man. He would be sentenced to two months' hard labor.
