Now, it was the act of a very generous and well-wishing father when James ' Whitley Burdett launched out m his matrimonial journey m a pub, the gift of his dad. That was away back m 1910, and James Whitley and his Adelaide, favored -by the handsome generosity of their friends, basked m the happiness of 'tlieir mutual affection. But since that 'blight and auspicious occasion 15 years ago the young- Burdetts have lived a life of Infinite misery and unhappiness. The public house presentation given m such ; a paternal, . kindly spirit, has proved the X'uination of the union entered; into by the young benedicts m 1910. . . : Burdett took such a violent liking to his stock-in-trade .that his attention to his wife, and the two children who afterwards appeared and should have brightened the home, became strained. On the grounds of habitual inebriation arid persistent : cruelty, Lawyer Matthews appealed to S.M. Cutten f or separation, maintenance and g-uardian-ship of the. children for Adelaide. The ■ wife told her doleful story. The license had ultimately been refused renewal because of his drunkenness and misconduct as a licensee. There was not- a single day he came home but what he was under the Influence of liquor. Separation granted and James ordered to pay maintenance at the rate of £2 a' week. • ' • '
