DERBY HOPE

At Napier Park

HAS SETTLED DOWN

The three-year-old Runnymede is to have his first race this season at] Napier Park this afternoon. The chestnut is engaged m the<open sprint, but he most likely will need the race to sharpen him up. Since last seen m public Runnymede has grown into a good-looking three-year-old, and he now has something under him. As a two-year-o)d he was inclined to be a bit of a handful, but he has settled down and can be handled by a kid. On Wednesday Runnymede is to run m the Hawkes Bay Guineas, and though he will have the race at Napier to serve as a pipe-opener, he may just be a bit lacking m. condition to run out the mile. His trainer, W. J. Donovan, is very sanguine of Runnymede's chances m the Derbies, and "Truth" cannot but agree with him. Riccarton m November Bhould find Runnymede at his best, and if he is to win a blue riband it should be at the southern course. Last season : at Ellerslie ho <3id not like the right-handed going, hanging out badly on the turns. : L. G-. Morris is to ride Runnymede m his engagements when possible.

A Sydney Spring candidate which ran second to the good Magpie colt Amounis at Rosehill on Saturday.
