Fifty-Fourth Annual Report and Balance-Sheet. The accounts of the above association; just to hand, seem to point to the fact that there- ore now no other class vi: shares, m this old-established an-1-venerable institution, than capital shares. Some time ago, if memory does not slip, there were investment shares on its balance-sheet. In those past days "Cambist," who has done his best to . stimulate the old-fashioned but sound doctrines of thrift, ur.^ecl upon the management of the association that they should promote by proper propaganda the advantages to investors, by means of investment share's, , m their association. There is enormous' scope for this association m the district m which it operates. it would be foolish to say that it is impossible to obtain that class of investors. It might ,be true to affirm; that there is no wish on the part of the association to cater for the thrifty. But "Cambist" hopes that, m the latter respects, the will to encourage thrift habits and at the same time promote worthy profits, has not faded away m the prosperous • course of fifty-four (Continued on page 17.) •
