Punters will have Taumarunui form to follow at Waipa next Wednesday. The company m the .President's Handicap, is ■ not very select, and Broadwood may be equal to ; the occasion, even with .nine stone to carry. Ra.ra.ng-i is nicely treated m the Matapiina Handicap, a five furlong race. The distance 'should, suit her, and she is a good beginner. Golden Bubble went a good race when he was seen out 1 on the conclud-

ing day at Te Rapa, and on that form he is bound to command a good toilowing if he starts m the open sprint. Miss Vera, Arch Opal, and Bright Knight are a trio that should show up m the Owhanga Handicap. Day Guard will be m front at some stage of the open six at Taumarunui. Several of the horses engaged m the Matiere Handicap claim engagements earlier m the day. Bourn may find Kawa the hardest to beat^in the hurdles. Some of the horses engaged m the Te Awamutu Steeples are candidates for Northern honors, and their running will.be watched with interest. The Auckland horses that made the trip south to the Egmont meeting met with a fair amount of success. H. Eva scored two wins, a second and a third with his team at Hawera. Panache was put over the pony hurdles after he returned from Whangarei, and he shapes well for a beginner. . ; Irish Jig was given a trial over the big fences on the fiat at Ellerslie recently, and he gave a most promising display. The Spalpeen gelding has made wonderful headway since joining the team controlled by P. E. Pope, and he should win good races before the season . closes. T. George is at present handling a youngster by Arrowsmith out of Loyal Arch. The heavy rains experienced m Auckland during the past week have softened the tracks up, and the steeplechase course should be at its best for jumping how. J. J. Preston has a promising sort of recruit, for the jumping game m the Spalpeen mare Miss Bramble. Mary Bruce was a little lame after working last' Saturday morning, but it is not thought the soreness will prove serious. Musketoon is one of ■ the fittest horses m work at ''headquarters at present, and although he has a : very big weight to carry m the Cornwall, the imported horse is bound' to give a good account of himself ' When he goes to the post on the King's Birthday. W. Garrett is keeping, Sir . Rosebery up to scratch, and this horse, will be at his best, by the time the hurdles are run. . Omahu's forward running at Hawera m hurdle races brings him into line for the Great Northern Hurdles m which he has been weighted to carry lOst 131 b. Master Peter is slowly coming into favor m Auckland for the big steeples In framing the weights for the Great Northern . Hurdles, Mr. McMenamin has given the connections of the southern-owned horse, 'Frisco Mail every inducement to make the trip north. Frisco Mail is asked to carry 9st 81b m the big hurdles at Ellerslie The San Francisco gelding scored m the Kildare Hurdle race at the Canterbury Jockey Club's autumn meeting, and on that occasion he carried list 91b to victory over a. mile and three-quarters m 3min 14sec. Canowindra is "m work again at headquarters; King' Smock arrived at last week to fulfil his engagements at the forthcoming Auckland meeting. The evergreen Dick is likely to make many friends for his steeples engagement by running such -good races at Hawera. The Greenlane' Steeples has not attracted a very good class of horse this year. C. Coleman's' recent addition, Scintillation, was seen out m a schooling task last week and gave a fair showing, although she^rieaiiy fell at the first jump, her rider Hi Hastedt making a good recovery. . .This year's - Carbine Plate has attracted a fair entry,, but it is on the cards that the field will be considerably reduced by the time the. meeting comes on. ' Cureaform seems to be' the best 4 of those nominated for . this 'event, and on a wet track she would, be hard tc dispose of. schooling task for some time last week, and gave a very pleasing exhibition. It is questionable whether Young Thurnham will stand up to a solid preparation. When racing on the flat, Kendal never showed any inclination to stay, and now that he has joined the ranks of the hurdlers it will be interesting to see how he fares. He jumps well. Peter. Maxwell is down to compete m hurdle events at the Auckland winter meeting. C. Morse has his two jumpers, Highway and Jovial, entered at Ellerslie. The former has a host of admirers for his engagement m the Northern Hurdles. Arch Opal put m a very strong run at the finish of the Consolation Handicap on the concluding day of the Hamilton meeting, and he o should be a greatly improved horse when he saddles up at Taumarunui to-day. Snake went a good race the last time he was seen' m action, and he would only have to affect a little improvement to show up m some of the jumping events m the near future. Archeen has been a very useful horse to George Reid this season, and the Marble Arch gelding's forward running at Egmont was well received m Auckland. ■ ' Bourn is sure to improve with , his races, and if he comes : north for the Juno meeting he should stand a good chance of getting some of the stake money going. Bourn is m the Hunt Club Cup, a'race that should suit him. . Mangapiko, who was expected to do big things earlier m the : year and then turned out to be a failure, is- down to race at Taumarunui. He will have tc improve a lot if he is to show up m his races there. If Kikiis ever going to win a race her chance should come when she £?oes out to contest the Trial Plate at Taumarunui. . Form points to Lightwood and Miss Ford as Kiki's most dangerous opponents. ':■ ' Miss Ford has not raced since the second day at Paeroa, when she went a very solid race to finish fourth, after being interfered with by The Sapling, who fell during the race. Only sixty- three horses are down to compete m the Jervois Handicap at Ellerslie, and forty-seven of them are m on the minimum. Even allowing for scratchings before the acceptances, it appears as though a division race is bound to result. Brushwood Boy, who 'has been off the scene, since he changed hands at Christmas, , figures among those engaged m the Jervois Handicap. Mahgoloire ran a good race for third money on the concluding day of the Avondale Meeting, and -then had to forego his Whangarei trip through meeting with a slight mishap. He is not harshly treated m the Penrose Hurdles at Ellerslie, but may' need a race before, he reaches his best. Freshman will run out the two miles m the HuntiClub Hurdles. Lady Ridicule is m good nick to race at present, but she would be seen to. better advantage if s"he had a race m her, Ring Pdtpa finished second at Egmpnt, but evidently his form did not impress Mr. McManemin, as the Po-' toa ''horse is on the, minimum at Ellerslie. „■■'. ' Irish Jig will more than likely forfeit his engagement m the Great Northern Hurdles and take his place m the field for the ' Penrose Hurdles. His good showing when put over the big fences may induce.his connections to let him start m the big steeples on the second day.
