Both Slow Up.

Jim Newbury (9,2) and Sid Shannon (8.0%), two rising featherweights, waged the main event m a mixed bill at the Sydney Stadium last Saturday night. Shannon's disadvantage of weight was made up for by, his fast boxing and clever evasion, and m- the second, with a neat right to the pit of his opponent's plexus, he dropped Jim, who immediately rose and went after Sid like a terrier. Shannon outsped his opponent until the eighth, when he began to slow up. This was when Newbury came into the picture, and it was then that backers began to take six to four about the heavier man. Newbury kept up to his adversary and at times had Shannon very shaky. After the fourteenth, Newbury also slowed up, and Shannon was able to outbox him until the end of the contest, when he received a points decision. — Special Cable.
