Should Men Help Their Wives?

Should men help their wives m the house? My wife has very decided views on the matter. She maintains it is the bounden duty of all husbands to help their wives where possible. Of course, I have my own ideas on the matter! -

At all events I had pondered over the subject for- some time and at last decided to try my hand at something and see how it, worked. The morning following this resolution I awoke early, and, carefully dressing without waking, my better half, I went .into the kitchen to prepare breakfast. - I had visions of my wife's delight en coming out to find the morning meal all ready for consumption.

It was' with visible pride I made the pot of "Burgoo" and left it on the gas ,to simmer while I hied myself round to the front of the house to get the milk ration which the man had just left. AVith a., light heart I grasped the bottl- round the neck and tripped merrily back with it. Alas! I tripped too merrily, for the bottle slipped from my fingers. It smashed to atoms on the concrete path while I stood dismayed watching ' the precious fluid it once contained^ trickle down to ttfe vegetable patch at the bottom.

Going back inside, I found that the porridge had burned. By this time I decided to stand by the stove m case of more accidents. But there my troubles did not end, foV the wife awoke, and, smelling the .burning food, came out to investigate. *

"Can't you learn to make porridge without burning it?" she scornfully asked. I meekly said it was an accident and then, with a sigh of resignation, explained how I had spilt the milk. •

There were more hard words and more fuss over that spilt milk than the re has been over the Reparations' problem.- ■

When the fuss had subsided somewhat, . I nervously wiped the moisture off my brow arid, seizing a glass, refreshed myself with a draught of water. But alas! my nerves were all on edge for I dropped the bally tumbler into the sink, where it smashed to pieces. .

I didn't wait for my breakfast, but grabbed up ray hat and fled off to work.

If anyone suggests to me again that I should help m the house I shall take great pleasure m biffing them over the head. — H. Gee.
