Cycle Racing at Aspendale

Although no records were established at the Aspendale motor races, the racing was good,, and several splendid exhibitions of speed were given by solo motor cyclists, notably Paul Anderson, of America, and Spencer Stratton, of New Zealand, who both rode Indian machines.

The Senior Sidecar Handicap for motor cycles 600 c.c and over (7 laps) went to C. Disney riding an Indian. During the first five laps of the race it was practically a duel between C. McCrae (Henderson) and Disney (Indian), but m the sixth lap Disney overhauled McCrae on the straight and won comfortably.

In the Invitation Scratch Race (7 laps), for motor cycles of all power, Spencer Stratton (Indian) made a brilliant finish,- winning by a length from C. Disney. Eight started and the time for this race was 5.19.

In the. Senior Solo Handicap, for motor cycles 500 c.c and over, Charles Disney (Indian), starting from scratch, came home with first, honors. The time for this race was 6mm 21 2/ssec. In the 500 c.c. Solo Handicap (7 laps) Paul Anderson, the visiting American crack rifler, rode an exceedingly fine race. He started from scratch- and beat D. 'Deaney on a New Imperial and C. Thomas on a Royal Enlield, with the greatest of ease.

During the afternoon there were one or two accidents, but none of a serious character. Stratton had a most remarkable escape when his motor cycle skidded and overturned as. he was entering the straight m the Senior Solo Plandi'cap. He was travelling at about 70. miles an hour, and, after ■somersaulting twice, he was dragged under the machine, but he soon picked himself up arid, attempted to resunie his ride.
