A Popular Promotion

Sub Inspector Rawle, Auckland;

When word came through that Senior Sergeant Rawle, of Auckland, had been promoted to the rank of Sub Inspector consequent on the transfer of Sub Inspector Bird to Invercargill, no officer of the Force was ever the recipient of more sincere and genuine congratulations. When it was further stated that he was to be retained at Auckland, the satisfaction •of those who come into contact with officers of the law was unbounded. No man could be more likeable for his purely personal qualities than Sydney Rawle, and no officer is firmer m the administration of justice. As a Senior Sergeant he was a most thorough and conscientious prosecutor, ever watchful of the faithful dispensation of justice and at the same time tempering justice with mercy. He prosecuted for almost every Government Department and never failed to have a good grip of the manifold cases he presented. These qualities, which fitted him so admirably for the subordinate position, will ho doubt be even further developed m his new sphere. During the quarter of a century he has been m the Force he has served m most branches of the police. He has been stationed m his time m Duriedin, Gisborne, Wellington, Greymouth, and Auckland; and during his service on the detective staff he was connected very intimately with many now famous cases.
