MONEY FROM UNCLE'S BANKING ACCOUNT. Only 17 years of age and about twc years m the country, . a girl was charged with forging withdrawal slips at the Newton branch of the Auckland Savings Bank, whereby she obtained the sum of £46 17s lid. , She was arraigned m the name of Nora Owens, and pleaded guilty to the IE charges set out. From the evidence brought out by Chief Detective Cummings it appeared that the girl, whc made a statement to Detective Isseil had been working m a .factory m the city and her wage was £2 2s 6d pei week. In the home of the accused was an uncle named John Donnelly and he had an account m the Auckland Savings Bank. When she gol out of work the girl found her uncle's bank book ,arid she carried out the forgeries each week, deceiving hai mother that she was working and handing up the . stolen money as hei wages. When she was out of work she put m most of her time m the reading room and at pictures, and with any money she had over she bought refreshments or went ie amusements. The S.M. reckoned he would not deal with the case, and the girl was remanded t<? the Supreme Court for sentence. Bail was allowed m the Sum cf £50, .which was found by the uncze, and the accused was liberated on the understanding that she went to the Salvation Army Home.
