B'Golly Bill m Town
♦ ■ HOMESICKNESS, • I stood on the city street corner x And gazed at the crowd going by: And it seemed so unreal and unearthly . That I couldn't quite credit the sky. .They'll have none of the earth m their city They *have made them a world of their own; \ They have shut out the sun with their granite And smothered the sod with their stone. Everything's hard m the city— • Those pavements of concrete and tar; Those cornel's as sharp as knife edges; 1 That din of a passing street car; That gaze of the 'Johns on us sinners; , ... . Those walls of the temples they guard; Those eyes of the girls who passed by hie — Ev'rything, ev'ry thing's hard! the sweet simple country • 1 ' With all of its old-fashioned ways, Where God grows His waving green grasses 1 And scents -Him His amber-hued hays. You can have your stojiy souled city, Brilliant and gay as it is; I'm sick for the scent of the hedgerows And the soft eyes and warm arms of Liz. . • . • ■■■• ' —C.H.O.
