Gone — No Address
AND THE DOLLARS DISAPPEAR. During August an advertisement appeared m "Truth," inserted by the "Arcadia Supply Company, Newton Arcade, Auckland," offering for sale for 5/- a book entitled "Married Love." "Truth" had no reason to doubt the genuineness of the advertisement. Indeed, we believe a number of our subscribers sent orders for the book, with remittances,- and their orders were fulfilled. Then we began to receive complaints from would-be purchasers of the book. They had forwarded orders with dollars, but there was no reply. ' Reminders were sent — m vain. No notice was taken of protests. "Truth's" Auckland staff: was requested to investigate. • An assurance was given by the "company" that supplies of the book were exhausted, but as soon as new stocks came., to hand, orders would be fulfilled. The "company" was advised to notify the trusting—and untrusting — subscribers accordingly. Our correspondents were notified to that effect. But complaints continued to arrive and "Truth" recommended that the assistance of the police should be sought. This week we have received yet another typical complaint. In this instance the writer, like most of the others, is not so concerned with the loss of his 5/- as he is annoyed at having been "taken down." His second letter to the "Arcadia Supply Company" has come back to him bearing two official Post Office intimations. One reads:. GONE:— NO ADDRESS. And the other: UNCLAIMED. Wo regret that some of our readers have been put to this loss and inconvenience through an advertisement originally accepted by us m all good faith.-
