TED WILLIAMS.

There are few athletes m New Zealand to-day who can look back on such a variegated career as Ted Williams, of Wellington. At the Thames High School he found a position m the Ist XV, and was a member of the school team of those years which defeated Auckland Grammar, King's College, Prince Albert and St. Johns. In tho summer months he wielded the willo\r for the senior XI and gained renown as a googly bowler. On leaving school he joined the Railway Department and was shortly transferred to Dunedin^ where he played for Kaikorai m tho years 1900-07-08. The following three years he played for Southern, and represented his province m several matches. When the football season finished,i Ted took up running and carried off several trophies as a middle distance man. He was also a member of the Otago Boxing- Association and took a great interest m. the game* being himself a boxer above the average. During the early years of the war he played Rugby for the Merivale Club and Canterbury College m Christchurch, and represented Canterbury for some years. It was -while hero that he came out again as a cricketer and gained, further laurels by representing Canterbury m the City and Suburban Association. In between times he interested himself m swimming and played water polo for the then champion club, Opawa, and waa a member of the Canterbury Surf Association. Prom Christchurch he waa transferred to Wellington, where he joined the Rugby Referees' Association and soon found' a position on the executive committee. He still takes an active interest m the code by coaching the "Victoria College teams, and this year is the delegate of that club to the Rugby Union, where he has been appointed. . to the Junior Advisory Board, and incidentally is one of the third-grade selectors. In the summer months Ted Williams goes out as opening batsman for the Thorndon Club's seniors and has shown m the field that he possesses a safe pair at, hands.
