Scqullar and Co., furniture dealers, at Hastings, Claude Charles' Brinsley, a hag-gard-looking man.ah. ex-N.Z.E.F. officer, was sentenced at the Wellington Supreme Court last week to two years' reformative treatment.-, , Mr. Justice Maegregor, sentencing Brinsley, said the Probation Officer did not recommend- probation. He was placed m a position of trust at the branch and' had grossly abused it having led a dissipated life drinking and gambling and consorting with, women. As far as his wife and children w?re concerned he had acted m an extremely callous "■ manner, and it was- quite hopeless to grant probation, m such a case; If. sentenced to reformative treatment he might have a chance of becoming a' decent citizen.
