Bidwell Street Affair
Inquiry Into Youth's Mental Condition. There was a stir of interest at the Wellington Magistrate's Court this week when Clifford Edward Morris Odlin, charged with wounding Leila Relchel, stepped into the dock. A tall, lanky youth, he did not Boem to quite realise his position and stared round the Court vacantly. Requesting a further remand, Sub Inspector Kemp stated that the girl was making slow progress, and it would be some time before her nervouh system could stand the strain of giving evidence either m the hospital or at the Court. Lawyer Skeddon, -who appeared for the accused, stated that Odlin was not a fit person to be kept m gaol, and suggested to the Bench that he might bo sent to a mental hospital pending the hearing of the charge. Magistrate Page replied that an application had been made to get Odlin examined. He proposed to get a report of two medical officers and the case would be remanded for one week!
