Brown won a small stake when Broadwood was successful m the Brabazon Welter at the hunt meeting, while the same member collected second money m the Winter Cup. Boomerday gavo every promise of running well before he left home, but his showings, while down South were of a very ordinary order. Lady Hill is being subjected to a course of hunting m preparation for the Walkato hunt meeting which is to be held towards the end of October. W. Paterson has put Royal Form on the active list and the gelding looks very burly to start his preparation for the" spring racing. F. Gilchrlst has a hunter In work named Shanks. Shanks finished qualifying at the hunts last week. Bullford and Bonibrook were two popular horsea m Auckland last week. The To Aroha lightweight horseman, E. A. Keesing, had the misfortune to recoive a broken collarbone while playing football for Piako at Waihi last Saturday. It is hoped that Keesing will be fit again to ride at the Marton meeting next month/ Te Tahi has been accorded a nomination at the Marton spring meeting. R. E. Thompson received a nasty fall off King' Abbey m his first race on tho other side and was not able to ride Royal Abbey when he was placed second. According to tho Australian papers to hand Royal Abboy would have won his race if his pilot had known his mount better. Good entries have boon received for; the big events to be decided at the Avondale spring meeting. The Avondalo Cup has attracted 31 entries, most of tho horses being trained locally. The Riccarton double winner, Wassail is nominated In tho Flying Handicap on the first day, while ho will be asked to Uike on the Plumpton Handicap on the second out. The Nut marc Tniamal has a filly foal to imported Romeo.
J. Buchanan is keeping Frettyman going steadily and the gelding looks very well. Joy Ride is m great heart and the first time he is asked to do his best he should give a good account of .himself. The many friends of E. Warner were very pleased to hear of the Aucklander's success m the' Grand National Steeples and the win was not out of turn. , Lark Hall and Prlnco Rufus are down to attend the Marton and Wanganui fixtures. . ' Exactly is continuing to do well m her work and barring accident she should be^on hand when the Avondale Guineas come up for decision.
