A WILLING WALKER.
Thl« week, the well-known distance walker. Mr. H. S. Alpe, proposes to go Into training once more, and contemplates Avalks from New Plymouth tc Wellington (his home town) and probably a demonstration at a carnival m the Hutt Valley at Christmas time. Mr. Alpo was a highly energetic patriotic worker during the war, and walked hundreds of miles m various parts of New Zealand canvassing for tho cause and for the Sir Arthur Pearson blind soldiers' fund. One of his more recent performances was at the H. E. Wilson sports gathering at the Athletic Park, when he walked In from the Potono Post Office and on tho way passed the Wellington Post Office ono hour twenty minutes after his startfairly good Koingr for seven miles, He finished sit tho park, doing a couple of rounds to great applause by the crowd, His exhibition was a purely amateur one, and all he requires In reward is a certificate from tho Athletic Association, which has been promised him. Though not a young man by any. means, his vigor is no way failing him for this summer.
