The display given by the Hawkes Bay Association at the Municipal Theatre, Hastings, m conjunction with the V.M.C.A., has already borne fruit, as a large number of the youth of Hastings have taken to the game. The YfM.C.A. has succeeded irt obtaining 1 the services of the N.Z. champion, Ike Robin, to dispense the science of the cult. Ike is. a great favorite m .Hastings and a number of the sports are clamoring to have one or Ike's matches held there, ,and for the sake of the game no doubt the association will oblige. .'■■■, . Another, big match thai! has been m abeyance for the last few months will eventuate at an early date, viz., the Hawkes Bay professional heavyweight championship between Kara (holder) and Fletcher (challenger). This match promises, to be a very good contest, and wilL be held at Waipawa.; It will thus be noted that the association is doing its utmost to cultivate the sport throughout the province. -The Hawkes Bay Association has applied to the parent body for permission to stage an open compeytion for the lightweight amateur championship of New Zealand. (10 stone and under). At time of writing no reply has been received, although the association is hopeful that its request will be granted. They wish to notify all aspirants to get into form as the competition will be brought off m conjunction with the Dickson — Robin tournament on August 30. The Hawkes Bay Association will donate a trophy worthy of the honor. ' Ike Robin has a challenge m this issue to wrestle any one m New Zea-, land, mixed styles, for a side stake.
