Amateur Championships.
Christchurch Sports Club held its amateur championship tournament at Christchurch last week, v On the first night only the first rounds of tho various classes were decided, the finals being contested the following night. Generally speaking, the boxing showed a great improvement over that which has-been seen during the last three or four yeara and it is evident that the gap created between 1914 and 191S, when the boxing community had something more serious to occupy their attention has been just about bridged^ The results of the finals m the championships were as follow: Ban taimy eight: W. Davey (Christ-chui-ch) Bst, beat V. Johnston (Christchurch) 7st 131 b, on a knockout. Flyweight: J. Piesse (Christchurch) 7st 71b, beat J. Wellman (Ashburton) 7st 71b. Featherweight: L. Black (Christchurch) Bst 131 b, beat T. Armstrong (Christchurch) 9st. Lightweight: A. G-. E. Stirling (Boys' High School) 9st 101 b, beat L. Hodder (Christchurch) 9st. Welterweight: W. Elvey (Christchurch) lOst 61b, beat A. Thompson (Christchurch) lOst 71b, an extra deciding round being fought. Middleweight: E. Pocock (Christchurch) lOst 81b, beat — Crooke (Christchurch) lOst 131 b. Light-heavyweight: R. Mora (Akaroa) list 111 b, beat F. Schimanski (Kaiapol) list 111 b. Tho judges were Messrs. Moss Ballin and A. L. Jones, while Mr. R. S. Draper was referee.
