Some surprise was excited In Christchurch this week when a well-known business man, William Gordon Hutchison, of the adVei'tising agency of Gordon Hutchison, Ltd., was brought before a Magistrate charged with the theft of a lady's bicycle. Tho machine was valued at .€B. Accused pleaded not guilty and elected to be tried by jury. He was represented by Lawyer Sargent. A statement made by accused to the police contains the explanation that the bicycle had been m the building where his oflice was situated for some weeks. He thought it belonged to his typlste and took it home.

Brief evidence was called to show that Hutchison was by no means short of money, and was the head of a good business.

He was committed for trial, and bail was allowed m a small sum.
