Billy.Grime, Bst 13%1b, featherweight champion of Australia, fought a draw with Sid Godfrey, lightweight champion of Australia, m a match for the lightweight championship to-night. . : - In the first round very little was done, as both men were getting into their stride. In the second they began to settle down, with Godfrey poking out his left, only to miss the swaying head of Grime by inches; but m the clinch Godfrey was supreme, for he was punching .very short and hard. Both men boxed at long range, with Grime swaying low. In the third, Billy sent over his lightning right, which shook Sid like a leaf. While following Grime, Godfrey let go his renowned right, . but 'only, to 'make -a big hole m the air. With Godfrey forcing the fighting. Grime made good the opportunity of ripping his left into the body. In the sixth, Grime made Sid bleed at the mouth. Up to the fourteenth Grime was leading a little on points, but from then on . he began to tire, and .as a result Sid w.ent after him. and further forced the fighting. » At the end. Referee Joe Wallis called it a draw, although Godfrey won by a very slight margin. - The house was worth £1920. Both men were fighting on 25 per cent., with Grime guaranteeing Godfrey £500.
