Wanganui

Mr. George M. Currie, who bred The Monk, has had information from Sydney to the effect that the owners of the Absurd colt are very sanguine the A.J.C. Derby will be won by their colt to-day. There is every reason to believe that Thespian will be as good as ever he was after another race or two. He has tightened up as a result of his racing here, and it is safe to say he will be equal to running out a very fast mile and a quarter at Trentham m the Champion Plate. The' Elysian colt Siaosi will be a runner m the two-year-old event at Masterton, at which meeting Civility will also be seen out The pair will then be taken on to Trentham by Mr. H. X Russell. There are not wanting those who expect to see Padonna (the brother to Tukia) prove very hard to beat m the Wellesley Stakes. The son of Absurd did not begin too well m the Debutante Stakes, but he was putting m good work at the finish, where he got up close to EUlochra. - Though Enthusiasm did not shape too well m her engagements at Wanganui, it was evident that she was not ready. It is -understood that she will be a starter m the N.Z. Cup if she goes on the right way. Veil, the winner of the Owen Handfe&p at Wanganui* is not likely to race again until the Fellding meeting cornea round. LlstoweL Thespian and Motley will represent Mr. G. Carrie at Trentham. The former will contest the hurdle events, at which game he is likely to do better than he has done at fiat racing. He made a couple of bad jumps here the first day otherwise would probably have won easily, but he will no doubt do better the next time he is seen out over the battens. In his schooling he jumps perfectly. It was W. Rayner*s Intention to send Deluge and Motley to Auckland for the Great Northern Guineas and the Welcome Stakes respectively, but the former went amiss and has had to be turned out for a spell. Probably Motley will go north, and the Absurd — Pennon filly may prove one of the hardest to beat. She 'has grown into a fine looking filly, with splendid quarters and can gallop.
