"Spearmint" In Sydney

RAtVjBLINGS FROM RANDWICK. Prospects For To-day's Races. (By Cable— Special to "Truth.") Muribaupo is not to start m the Derby, but will be reserved for sprint races. Mr. G. L. Stead likes the chances of his gelding Tarleton m. the Blue Riband event, m which he will be ridden by J. Toohey. He is an equal favorite with Rahiri and All Sunshine. J. McCann, the Caulfield trainer, who was over m the Dominion a short time back and who was after Loughrea, is still m hospital at Melbourne. Connolly is, m the meantime, training Harvest King, who is hardly the class of Rapine and David. The . lastnamed established a course record at Rosehill on Tuesday over nine furlongs. Royal Blood (the last Auckland Railway Handicap winner}* now m charge of Frank McGrath, was responsible for the best six furlongs at Randwick on Tuesday morning. The Victorian, Purser, is a bad traveller and may not be at his best for the Spring Stakes. There is a chance of him being reserved for the Randwick Plate on the last day. The Epsom is run to-day and The Hawk, with Jimmy Pike m the saddle, will be favorite. He should be knocking at the finish as he is a great galloper, but with such a big weight (9.7), and being a little on the small side, he will have all the Worse of it, and if he suffers any interference it will finish his chance. Eric Connolly's Polytheist (8.7) and "J. Baron's" Duke Isinglass will be^in the money and are well m the market. For the Derby there will probably be a big field — fifteen. All Sunshine will be the favorite and Connolly is confident of him winning. The Monk has gone out of favor and is an unlikely starter. King Carnival, who will be ridden by Hughie Cairns, will have second call. The Comedy King colt likes to be m front all the way and he always races best when these tactics are adopted, but it is a big task to ask a horse to win all the way m a twelve -furlong classic. Leonardo and Shrapnel are the best of the outsiders, and both shaped well m the final gallops. Beauford will be an absentee, as the sprained tendon shows no sign of mending. David and Rapine will now have the weight-for-age races to themselves. Bathos, who has been sold for lOOOgns, won a race at Hawkesbury on Saturday, but the field was of very poor class. He is well sold. Cairns rode him, and he wa9 very lame before the race, and had to be warmed up at the post; He was a hot favorite, and just struggled home, but had the lameness been known he would have been at a very long price. Star Ranger ran very badly m both starts, and is to be shipped back to Trentham next boat. Pittsworth has not accepted In the Hurdles, and Sam Walls will ride Gindi. Later. It is reported that J. H. Jefferd received 2000 guineas for the two-year-old Palelight (Absurd— Starlight). The colt is not to run at Randwick. C. T. Godby purchased him for Mr. George Tye'and will later be the medium of a big gamble m Melbourne. Eric ■ Connolly bought Tressayr for a Melbourne client. The price is stated as 1000 guineas. Trainer R. J.- Mason returns to Wellington on the Manuka, which leaves Sydney on October 6. All Sunshine is now favorite for the Derby and outside of him it Is considered to be an open race. An attack, of coughing has caused The Hawk to recede m the market for the Epsom, and Duke Isinglass is now favorite. Danger Zone, the ex-Hawera owned gelding, who Is m with 7.7, was responsible for a wonderful half-mile on Thursday and has an outsider's chance. David ran another record nine furlongs on Thursday and looks like accounting for Rapine In the Spring Stakes, one mile and a half. Glndl and Clan Roberts will run well m the hurdles and m the Trial Handicap Irish Rythm Bhould be In the money.
