A ■drama thai strikes something of a new note m modern motion pictures is "The Silent Voice," iwith George Arliss, at the Empress tills week. This great star, who will be remembered tor his sterling' portrayal In "Disraeli," is cast as a musician who is suddenly afflicted with deafness. From a kindly man he develops into a cynic. The great climax of the story comes when, through the merest cast of Fate, he regains his hearing, and his reconciliation to God and the goodness of the world, marks the transition of a soul from darkness to the light of understanding. The, story is adapted from .VThe Man Who Played Gad," by Gouverneur Morris.
