Surgical Operation Wanted.
"What you really need is a surgical operation, and some day the law will probably provide for it," declared Sir John Salmond In tho Supreme Court last week, when sending a male prisoner along for seven years' Imprisonment. Four offences had been proved against hlrn of indecent aasaults on small boys, involving actions of a most loathsome nature. The sceno of the assaults was the environments of Tinnkori Road, where be had lain In wait for boys returning from school and enticed them away. This was ono Porclval Ernest Green, an under-sized man, 42 years of age. s.nd a Londoner by birth, who had been employed for some time m Wellington city as a cook's assistant m various restaurants. Lawyer Leicester put m a plea for reformative treatment, but his Honor observed that such a course would bo of no avail. Prisoner had been convicted and imprisoned for offences of the same typo before. There was only one thing for him, seeing that a surgical operation was not yet allowable, and that was to put him Into gaol und out of the way for a long term. "Seven years," pronounced tho Judge, and tho prisoner was quickly removed.
