AT AUCKLAND.

A suggestion that the Auckland Association should acquire a playing ground of its own met with the approval of the Management Committee at last week's meeting, and the matter will be fully gone into later. It is more than likely a junior team will make a trip to Whangarei later on and play a return match with the local lads. The proposal that an Englisn team should be invited to the Dominion to play a series of matches was received favorably by the Committee of the Auckland Association. It was decided to request Mr. J. M. Olliver, the centre's delegate to the N.Z: Council, to secure particulars as to „" the number of matches to be played and also the amount the Auckland centre would be required to guarantee. The visit of the Australian team has had the effect of attracting to Soccer more attention from the public and at each of the club games last Saturday there was a good crowd of spectators. The Devonport team are improving as the season progresses, and from now on will keep the best of their opponents on the move. The Philomel men are playing great football, and each week their play is a source of attraction to enthusiasts. North Shore and T.M.C.A, had a very interesting tussle, <but the seasiders always looked like winners, and they left the field victors by 3 goals to 1. The shooting m some of the matches last week was poor, and a man with a twisted foot could have done as well as some of those attempting to send the hall into the net. " The V.M.C.A. team on Saturday were not quite up to full strength. Two good players m Clanachan and Catt were resting. In Corbett and Lewis the Philomel team have two crackajacks, and they must be a source of annoyance to their opponents. At one stage of the game it looked as though Devonport Presbyterians were going to down the guns, . the Philomel, but tho latter began to play proper football, nr.d It was soon U.P. .with the church lads, and Philomel won by 3 goals to 0. McKerman is a "hewey" m the Philomel team. Doesn't play a bad game either, judging by his showing on Saturday. In the first half of the PonsonbyCorinthians game there was very little to choose between the teams, but the Ponsonby men were shooting better than their, opponents. However, m the early part of the' second half Ponsonby had decidedly the better of the play, and finally ran out winners by 4 goals to 2.
