AEROPLANE AMOURS.
Whilst Australians and New Zealanders, as a rule, are not up m the clouds, they are certainly doing their share m • the conquest of the air. The noteworthy achievement of Mr. C* J. De'Garis, Lieutenant Briggs, and Sergt. Howard m flying from Melbourne to' Perth m 24 hours, incidentally stopping for lunch In Adelaide, after a Aye hours' flight, opens up interesting possibilities for up-to-the-minute commercial men wishing to do business expeditiously. Regular atrial services are established between Londoin and Paris, and between several other European cities. With a little Government encouragement, air services between New Zealand capitals would have been m active operation long ago. Then the gay young "nut" toiling m Wellington will be able to visit his little "bit o' skirt" m Auckland at the week-ends, have ample courting time, and be back again ready for the dreary rqund and trivial task, bright and early on Monday morning. When the poet sang, "My love, I fly to thee," he prophesied better than he knew. The new* flying age will be great for lovers, who are parted by distance. Young Lochinvar of the future will make a swoop out oif the sky, -grab.- his Jane, and soar away into the azure blue. When the ardent lover asks his lady love to fly with him, she will doubtlessly a.sk:"What make of machine do yon use?" Then "Truth" can, ■m imagination, see the poor proprietor -of aDe Haviland passed over for the proud possessor of a Handley-Page or Vickers-Vimy.
