HARRIS HARASSED.
Edward William Harris, who figured prominently m a divorce case heard last November, and who was then described as a garage proprietor at Kalkoura, has been having rather a bad run lately. On that occasion he" petitioned for a divorce, but his iwife counter-petitioned, on the ground of misconduct. A' few weeks ago Harris was sued by his -wife for arrears of maintenance,. due under an order of the court compelling ihim to pay £3 10s a week (for the support of his wife and hla children. The arrears were paid into court before the case was called, but the magistrate (Mr. McCarthy), according to his practice m dealing with those who pay their maintenance moneys only when sued, fined Harris a couple of pounds and intimated that It would be a "fiver" next time. Last week up came Harris once again on another summons for arrears, and once again the amount owing, all but £3, was palid into court. Under the circumstances, Lawyer Thomas, iwiho appeared for the complainant, said that he would not ask for the imposition of another fine m the terms of his Worship's threat Harris, this time, appeared m person and said that he iwas unable to ,pay such a lot of money, aa, s"ince the order was issued, his circumstances had altered. He now drew only £5 a week, out of which he had to pay thirty "bob" for board and seventy under the order. After the magistrate had reminded Harris tihat he had not been paying the money, Mr. Thomas said that the order would shortly expire as, m a week or two, he would be moving for a decree absolute, on £ehalf of Mrs. Harris, and the question of means would come up iwhen that of alimony was being discussed.
