OTAGO HUNT CLUB.
The steeplechase meeting which, under the aegis of the above . club; is to be held on the Wingatui racecourse to-day, promises to provide one of the most enjoyable outings of . the year. The final acceptances show every indication of being more numerous than those received for the club's previous successful meeing 1 , and the acceptors include those ' horses which took the most important, parts . m the jumping events at the recent IX J,C. meeting. The club's officials are an alert and energetic lot of sports, and they can be depended upon to conduct a meeting that offers special inducements m the way of good management and the purest .of sport. A special train service has been provided for, so that the public may have no trouble m getting out m time for the first . rape, which starts at 11.30. The meeting is, of course, a totalisator one. If Dunediri running may be taken as an indication, there is little prospect of this . year's Grand National wim'T coming from the £>outh. Morecampe is the best of a poop crowd. When rounding the home turn m the Empire Handicap, at Wingatui on Saturday, Miss Finland (P. McKay) fell, bringing Redshire (Q. Young) with her. Young's share was a broken collarbone and a severe shaking-, Me Kay escaping with bruises. Record of . trainer P. T. Hogan for three days at. Wingatui; — Eleven hoi'ses engaged; thirty-one starts; nine firsts, five seconds, six thirds, eleven . unplaceds; prize money, £2880; dividends (10s) paid, £18 5s Cd; only horses failing to get placed, Kilkee (3) and Wild Pilgrim (8). . Palam,on Is proving ; an ; expensive proposition, and cannot be looked upon as a "pal 'o mine" by any of those who so consistently followed him at Wingatui. Palisade, after a coijple of wretched jumping displays at Wingatui, put up a brave showing the. third day. jump-irig--like a veteran, \ie was just beaten ■out of a place when a sensational dividend seemed, assured/ ; : '■ ■■ . Thft "tommies" were well flogged by the turning up of the Sarniel — Redshire double, second day at Wingatui, but • the gods : were more kindly disposed towards them oh the first and third days.',,. The Hot Air— Glensponse combination .wasn't written once. ■,' Otag-o Hunt Club. Steeplecase meeting at Wingatui to-day (Saturday); Mr. W. J. Jame3 is, as usual, m charge, of the 1 totalisator. . . ,".''. The stakes offered by the Otago Hunt Club for their steeplechase mestr ing to-day are the largest ever given by a Hunt Club m New Zealand.
