FILBERT'S FICKLE FLOSSIE
(From "Truth's" Dunedin Rep.)
The green-eyed monster was responsible for the appearance of Emile Ga France Filbert before Magistrate Bartholomew the other morning-. The gentleman with the fancy name is a Belgian by birth, and he was charged with having attempted to take a single ticket to the stars, per medium of a revolver. It seems that the boy from Belgium was more concerned with an amour of his own than with his country s woes. The lady happened to be married, but that trifle did not prevent her from accepting- Emile's magnaminous offer to share his whare and his wages when they met at Port Chalmers. Everything m the garden was lovely for about six weeks. Then the fickle lass transferred her affections driving her Belgian paramour to the depths of despair. He sought his couch and sent for a policeman. When, m answer to Emile's summons, a couple of "Johns" sauntered to his bedside to take his dying depositions, the blubbering Belgian assumed an attitude of hostility. He jumped up, grabbed a revolver and murmured gently that after he had sent the two ".Tohnops" to meet their ancestors, he would drill a few ventilating holes through his own distorted • brain. Unfortunately . for those who delight In sensationai shooting' matches, the "perlice" did not give Emile a chance to emulate the marksmanship of his countrymen. He was a much-humbled desperado when he come, before the "beak." He. told a doleful story of feminine perfidy, but denied having threatened to put out the constables' lights. The Magistrate, having a promise that Emile would not further indulge m sensational pnstirnes, told him that the woman not worth while bothering his curly head about, and ordered him to come up for sentence when called upon.
